"When I first began to design jewelry I found it somewhat difficult, but I was encouraged to see my wife's dedication and artistry."
"Ever since I can remember I've always enjoyed painting and designing, so I studied graphic design. However, my wife and her family have been crafting jewelry for generations, and slowly I started designing jewelry. I realized designing jewelry is my passion, and I've been dedicated to this since 2007.
"I was born in the city of Chimbote but moved to Lima with my family when I was a kid. From the time I can remember, drawing has always been something I enjoy. I love tracing lines and configuring my ideas. Designing relaxes me, I love sitting down and giving my imagination free reign to create different shapes and sizes, then giving them color. It's my form of therapy against stress.
"When I first began to design jewelry I found it somewhat difficult, but I was encouraged to see my wife's dedication and artistry. She really enjoys practicing the techniques her father taught her. Eventually we realized it was better to leave the crafting to her, the designing to me.
"It motivates me to think that people will get to know more about the quality of Peruvian silver through my designs, as well as the quality of the hand crafted work here. I'd like you to appreciate the beauty of Peruvian silver and the great things we do with it.
"This adventure into the world of silver jewelry is everything to me, it motivates and encourages me to keep on creating and creating.
"We took part in Peru Moda and we were happy to receive recognition from Peruvian and international designers. I also participated in Colombia Moda, with a delegation of Peruvian jewelers.
"We only get one life to live, and that's why my constant challenge is to succeed every day a little bit more so I can provide a better future for my wife and family. They give me the strength to carry on and to ensure I provide my children with a good quality of life as well as a better education than I had. I'm by no means saying I've not had a good life, I'm just expressing what every father hopes for – we want the best for our children and hope they do better than us.
"I would like to invite you to know more about Peru's jewelry art. Every piece we make is crafted by hand with attention to detail, quality and elegance. Many thanks for welcoming us into your homes."
Known for their basket-weaving arts, the village of Amlapura in Bali is the inspiration for this band ring from Komang Wijayana. The artisan weaves slender strands of sterling silver into an elegant band ring for women.
