The artist Fiol Heginard Hidalgo was born in the beautiful state of Ancash on September 4, 1931. He studied artistic design in his youth and eventually trained in silver work at some of Peru's most renowned silversmith workshops. He specializes in a variety of silver items as well as in jewelry. Fiol describes his work as the ideal medium through which he can transmit his knowledge of precious metals. It is a way for him to express his creativity and skill.
By 1963, Fiol was completely dedicated to silver work, and claims as inspiration his experience working alongside some of the most renowned Peruvian and foreign silversmiths of the time. This experience as well as his own innate predisposition to art, are factors that asserted his knowledge and defined his way of life - which he shares with his wife and three children. He works alongside his family and he tries to instill in them a sense of strength, vitality and perseverance.
About the greatest challenges he has had to face, Fiol confides that "with regards to my family, the biggest challenge I've had to face is to provide for them. The biggest challenge I have personally encountered has been to patiently learn that if you want to attain your goals, you have to persevere. And with regards to work, it has been to create my own lines, provide a job for those who need it and contribute in some modest way to development of handicrafts."
Fiol now also teaches his craft, and to Novica customers he would like to say, "Peruvian silver works have a vast range of artistic manifestations. I invite you to meet the art of silver. My products are made with love and dedication - you can be sure they have been hand-crafted."
