"As an artist or artisan, it's important to be authentic and find the things that drive your passion. Hopefully in doing so, your work can have a personality and spirit of its own."
"I am married and have one daughter. Becoming a mother changed my life in many ways. When my daughter was born, she gave me the courage to follow my passions, and it was around the time of her birth that I had the courage to start my own design studio and launch my first collection.
"Hi, my name is Sri Luce Rusna, born of a Balinese mother and American father. I was born in New York City and moved to Bali when I was five years old and spent my childhood Pengosaken, near the Monkey Forest. Living and going to school in Bali, we would go to New York for Christmas and summer holidays.
"Bali is radiantly alive on many levels and I think this is what attracts so many different types of people from all walks of life to settle down here. Bali has always been my physical and spiritual home and as I raise my family here it is becoming my family home as well. Both Bali and Indonesia are sources of great pride and passion for me in many ways, both personally and creatively. Our collective histories, passion, and creativity are all sources daily inspiration for me.
"As an artist or artisan, it's important to be authentic and find the things that drive your passion. Hopefully in doing so, your work can have a personality and spirit of its own. That being said, Bali is a very small artistic community and a lot of the work here happens in context with one another. Sometimes we are all very different but very similar at the same time.
"Our designs are inspired by our collective history, by our culture, by our people, and by the natural beauty of the Indonesian archipelago. The process with which our designs are crafted differs very little to the methods or tools that our ancestors used. In some way, making jewelry in Bali is like paying tribute to an ancient craft of their forefathers.
"Our collections are crafted entirely in-house in a very small and intimate workshop studio on the east coast of Bali. We all work together in one large pistachio green room and there are very little boundaries between the design process and jewelers' workbench.
"One of the things that make our studio unique is that we are committed to preserving the traditional silversmith methods originating in Bali and Java, and we try to apply them to the modern world. Other than the addition of the polishing and finishing wheels, our process is identical to the process used by our ancestors.
"We are a very close team of people working together and we all share a common cause, which is that we are all pedantically passionate about jewelry. The glue that holds us together is our common passion as well as our shared commitment to explore the boundaries of design and craftsmanship with a special focus on traditional Balinese and Javanese techniques. It is always a blessing when you can find a group of people who share the same goals and passions as you.
"In 2012 we received the Yak Award for best jewelry design.
"I hope our association with Novica will allow our designs to reach a broader community of people."
