"Family can provide you with everything to live your life. They give love and care so we grow up to become a member of society. It is the smallest social unit and it is very important to everyone. A family provides warmth and plenty of love for their members. Like my life as a member of the Boonnak family. My name is Thivaporn Boonnak. I was born on February 12, 1983 to a warm family dedicated to handcrafts in an area renowned in the country and abroad as the road of oriental silver. Burmese, Tai, Laos and Lanna silver are collected and designed in this district. I grew here and I absorbed the thoughts and manner of the silversmiths. My mother is the daughter of silversmith who has received an award for his expert skill and he continues to make Thai heritage jewelry. And my father is a talented silversmith too. They own a silver shop too – that's how I became interested in silver from a very young age.
"I love to design, draw the lines and forms of objects. To achieve my goal, I want to become a good artisan and a good jewelry designer. I am always practicing either by myself or with the artisans who live near my home. Also, I am learning how to design and set the pieces so they become beautiful silver accessories. The most influential artisan has been my mother [a Novica featured artisan]. She has been continuing the ancient silver crafted she inherited from her grandfather, an original artisan of this area.
"I am very proud to come from an artisan family. My older brother is an artisan too, he is interested the business aspect of silver. We plan to work together in the future; He will run the business and work with the artisans. I will design the new items and make them myself. My style is modern, to be worn on any occasion. Ancestral tribe designs are also good and classic. They sell a lot, but I would like to design contemporary pieces. I am always adapting and creating motifs that look a bit modern and chic.
"I have had the opportunity to go to the big fairs and participated in many jewelry contests. They stimulate ideas and my imagination to create works of silver. If you look around you will learn more. I also love to travel. It opens my mind and I love people. About my work, I want to say that I love every piece I make and design - even a small piece. And I hope you will love it too. Silver is always special and makes you and your loved ones feel happy."
