Garnet necklace, 'Royal Peacock'

A peacock flaunts its elegant feathers in the palace garden. Prageet depicts one of India's favorite birds on an ornate pendant. Suspended on triple strands of glowing garnets, it combines tradition with modern style. Garnet is the stone of devotion - to others, to self, and to one's aim. It is believed to awaken the inner fire of creativity.

Prageet

"Hello, my name is Prageet and I was born in Bihar. I was brought up in Rajasthan where I did my schooling and college. While in school, I was always involved in extra-curricular activities such as music, theater, arts and crafts, cultural shows, sketching and so forth. As a child, I enjoyed watching artisans craft innovative art works, and I often was inspired by them. Upon returning home, I would typically try to emulate their work - with the kind support of my maternal grandmother and my mom.

"After my basic schooling I studied engineering, a tough course of study that required much concentration and hard work. More often than not I would find myself more interested and engrossed in sketching, photography, and event management. Eventually I got so engrossed in my hobbies, that I chose to dedicate myself wholeheartedly to them, instead of engineering.

"I started making artifacts from wood, clay, paper, brass and glass. Definitely, it was a lot more fun! Then, one day, opportunity struck when my good friend Manju Kanwar, a jewelry designer, offered to let me design some jewelry. I jumped at the opportunity without a second thought. I couldn't have wished for more. This opportunity gave me the chance to explore my creativity. I am grateful for Manju Kanwar's support, and the education provided me in this life by so many others as well.

"Colors play a very important role in my designs. I generally design according to the trends in the market. Currently there are about 12 expert artisans collaborating with me, as well as more than 30 junior artisans. Through my designs, I aim to celebrate the color of rural India. I wish for people to appreciate our rich arts.

"I have been imparting everything I know to my co-workers. I share my vision and thoughts while, on the other hand, I also learn from budding artisans as well – from the freshness in their designs. I believe I'll always be a student of crafts, and always find a pearl from each dip into this ocean of art."
