Mercy Amaning

Since her father worked as a civil servant and had to relocate quite often, Mercy Amaning spent her childhood moving from town to town. Born in 1966 in the eastern region of Ghana, she eventually settled in one place at the age of twelve, her father insisting that she live a stable life with her mother. She earned a government scholarship to a state college, leaving school full of aspirations.

After graduating Amaning ventured into various small business undertakings, eventually becoming involved in bead stringing, unleashing her great talent in the jewelry arts. The beginning wasn't easy, but after a series of disappointments she received the guidance and training of a thoughtful bead-maker, under whose tutelage her talent truly flourished. Eventually she became independent, applying her knowledge in the conception, selection, design and execution of beads.

Now Amaning runs her own workshop, assisted by her sister and a few others. Each of her products - from the simplest bead to the most intricate jewelry set - is a sterling signature of her unique and abundant imagination.
