Nuan

"My name is Nitchanun Boontan, but you can call me Nuan. I was born in June 17, 1981, the last of three daughters. My oldest sister is a shopkeeper at fresh food market. My middle sister married an airline pilot and lives with her husband in Bangkok. I'm a university student and live with my oldest sister.

"My interest in jewelry – especially in silver – made me want to be a designer. In my hometown, I have an aunt who has a silver shop and we are very close. On school vacations, I help her a bit, as much as I can. I like to wear jewelry and I want to wear my own designs too. I started designing for my aunt but she didn't like it much. In any case, I'd like to develop my own style, one she'd like. Even though I don't study in a jewelry design program, I like silver and I like to create new designs. Currently I have many styles to offer in my aunt's shop and they sell quite well.

"My lifestyle is very peaceful. In the morning, I go to the temple to give food offerings to a monk. Or on Buddha's day, if I have time, I will go to make merit and meditate. I feel calm and I'm careful in everything I do. Because now I study and work part time after class, I don't want to use my parents' money because I feel I'm not a child anymore and want to save money for the future when I need it. I think working after school is giving me experience and an income too.

"My life has seen both good and bad. When I was a teenager, I had a motorcycle accident. I stayed a long time in a hospital, and it was very painful. It made me afraid to ride fast. But on the good side, this was the first time I crafted silver in my own designs. I feel happy when I see that customers like them and buy them. So, it isn't a lot but it's a good beginning, isn't it?

"I like every product I design and feel happy when my customers like them because these are traditional Thai products by a new generation. I want to create new pieces based on northern Thai style. I want to have jewelry shop to sell them. I spend most of every day thinking about new designs."
