"I am
carioca [Brazilian] and together with my wife and children, I moved from Rio de Janeiro city to the southern part of the state in search of the tranquility my beloved city of Rio had lost. I worked for a blown glass company and although my job was entirely administrative, I always enjoyed designing special motifs for personal purposes, to mark a particular feast, such as the company's New Year's bash. Eventually the company's CEO found out about this and invited me to design a glass with Brazilian motifs to be sold abroad.
"My forays into designing eventually led me to establishing a workshop together with my wife; we design silver jewelry along with more casual accessories. Our work became well known; fashionable boutiques featured our jewelries and we received commissions for parades, TV programs and magazine covers.
"Our jewelry went on two separate exhibitions sponsored by the Bank of Brazil. We received an Honorary Mention in one, a silver medal for the second one.
"In 1998 I was commissioned by the organizers of the Eletrobrás Awards for Popular Brazilian Music to design their 1999 award. The ceremony paid tribute to some of Brazil's most talented musicians including Paulinho da Viola, João Nogueira, Elza Soares, Beth Carvalho, Jorge Benjor, João Bosco, and Alceu Valença. In 2000, I was asked to design the logo for the Portal Região das Agulhas Negras, which became the basis for their animated cartoons. That same year I received the Saint Angela trophy in the web category for the Castelli Animatti festival in Italy. I was the only Brazilian artist there. In 2002 I designed a sculpture for the 1st Caras de Musica Awards; I was one of 15 finalists. Critics believed the finalists' works were amongst the finest in all of Brazil.
"I am a self-taught artist who from a very young age developed an interest in the works of Brazilian artists. I have the good fortune to count on an extraordinary cultural background and I've always had a keen interest in history. All of these interests form the basis of my designs.
"My daughter Renata preserves the family legacy. Even as a child she always showed interest in what I did and now she designs jewelry with me. And, we are both intrigued by Novica's mission of promoting the art of different cultures to the whole world."
