"I am the only child of a journalist mother and a physician father. As girl, I dreamt about becoming an artist but as fate would have if, I first studied Economy at university. While still preparing for my BA, I began to study Graphic Design, painting at the Fine Arts institute, and jewelry at the Peruvian-Japanese Institute.
"Actually, I really took my first steps in jewelry design as a little girl, when I'd make my necklaces and bracelets with seeds. Then as an adult, during my travels I came to see the great variety of gemstones that existed. Realizing the boundless possibilities of what I could do, I decided to start making my own jewelry. I felt such immense happiness when I sold my first piece! It was a bull horn necklace with rose quartz and colorful glass beads.
"By 2004 I was able to open my own workshop, and now there are four people working with me. Our creations have reached Canada, Mexico, USA, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Dominican Republic.
"I am married and have two lovely daughters, but only the youngest one seems to enjoy making things with her hands. During my free time I enjoy sports, specially Pilates and swimming.
"I identify with young people, therefore most of my designs are colorful. I hardly use black. My trademark colors are orange, red, pink, turquoise and green shades.
"One of my toughest challenges is competing with the Chinese market because of their sheer volume and prices. So I would like to encourage Novica customers to buy instead from Peruvian artists. We offer a wide range of products with original designs and 100% made by hand."
Jessica Carrasco was previously known to Novica customers as a ceramist as well as a jewelry designer. Now she has decided to focus solely on her jewelry collections.
