Marcia Pinto and Luciana Lopes had been friends for many years before deciding to become partners and design jewelry with a distinct Brazilian identity. They opened a studio together in 2005, and have since been working on pieces that are unique and modern.
Marcia hails from Paraná and is a fine artist as well as designer. She credits her artistic instinct to her parents, Antônio her father who is an architect and designer, and Eloê, her mother, is a also a designer.
Marcia has two siblings, and her artistic intellect has been present ever since she was a child. When she moved to Rio de Janeiro she immediately submerged in the local culture characteristic of Baixa Fluminense. In her art she combines her family's heritage, which includes German, Austrian, Russian, Portuguese and ethnic roots.
During her adolescent years she joined the Orthodox Church, where se learnt to paint icons and was granted permission to practice this art by Dom Gabriel I, Metropolitan Primary of Portugal, Spain and Brazil. She credits a strong influence of Sacred Byzantine art in her work thanks to this association.
Marcia admires the work of Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, M. C. Escher and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and as an artist, she works in a great variety of medium. As a jewelry designer, she works with Art Clay techniques which allow her to manipulate strong colors and symmetry.
Her designs are influenced by her passions, such as Brazil's bohemian lifestyle, old Rio, meeting friends, Paraty and Visconde de Mauá, as well as nature.
Luciana graduated in Publicity and Marketing and has always been involved with arts and handcrafts through the several courses she has taken, including at the International Museum of Naif Art, where she learnt and mastered paper maché techniques. Her favorite artists are Gaudí, Botero, and Beatriz Milhazes amongst others.
