Synthia and Haydee

"I'm Synthia Arias Negreiros, born 14 April, 1969. My sisters and I grew up together with both our parents until I was 10 years old, when my father decided to go his own way. I studied interior design for three years, and then I dedicated my time to music. I come from a family of artists: most of my relatives on my mother's side sing or play a musical instrument. My grandfather was a well-known actor who had a radio program and also performed on stage. That's how he met my grandmother, who used to sing with a trio back in the 1930's. That's why I received my artistic formation at home, and my hobby is to sing.

"I've been making handicrafts since 2001. It all started from feeling I needed to do something that was beautiful and different from what we usually see in the market. My story is borne from effort and hard work.

"To me, this type of art is a way of distancing myself from the external world and becoming free of tension. I am motivated by my own work and style, and by a desire to transmit something that is elegant, beautiful and original. To me, this kind of art runs in the blood and comes from the soul. It is not acquired, it's innate.

"The biggest challenge I have had to face was making the decision to devote myself entirely to this art, facing market risks, and becoming my own boss.

"My mother, Haydee Negreiros, was born 15 November 1940 to a family of artists. She studied nursing after high school, and continued taking different courses such as sewing, cooking fine desserts, and organizing buffets. She has loved art ever since she was a child, when her dad taught her music.

"My mother began on the silversmith path by helping me. At first, we would sit together, her passing me the gemstones. As time went by she was designing and making her own pieces. She says it all happens as she begins to make each piece, combining metal and gems guided only by her imagination.

"When I first started I wasn't sure if I was going to make it, but I am very skilled with my hands, and I found out that making jewelry is something that entertains and relaxes me. Making jewelry is something I really love to do and now I'm even teaching!

"As a child I loved to sing, paint, sew clothes for my dolls. As an adult, I love to design and make jewelry with silver and gemstones. Our designs are original and we strive to improve with each passing day. The fact that people love our designs inspires us to continue."

Haydee says, "I love that being a senior citizen, I am doing things that I like, that are beautiful, and that it is appreciated by other people. Art is my true passion. The biggest challenge I faced was bringing up my daughters on my own. Thank God he was by my side and helped me.

"Each piece that we make is intended to be a different style, with the assurance that it is made of the highest quality possible. Each one has a little piece of our hearts and it is dedicated to Novica customers."
