Bracelets, 'Lotus Chic' (pair)

Paisarn finds inspiration in the costumes and accessories of ancient royals to design these alluring bracelets. Cast of polished brass, the ends resemble miniature lotus buds. During the Ayudhaya period, women were so captivated by this design that they commissioned jewelers to replicate them in the form of anklets. This unique design can be used either as a bracelet or anklet.

"My name is Paisarn Charuchattraporn but my friends call me 'O.' I was born on July 21, 1977 and have three brothers; I am the second child. After high school, I enrolled in the Science Faculty of the university, but I realized it wasn't for me. So when I was a second-year student I switched to Humanities and majored in Thai Language. After that, I received my Master's degree in English.

"I became interested in making bracelets at a young age and in high school I was able to learn more about the craft. However, my first work was a hairpin traditionally used for a Lanna period play. The design of this first hairpin was actually inspired by a TV program about the royal courts of Lanna. I was captivated by the production and used to watch it every week The costumes they used were very real, just like I had seen in books and there I saw the hairpins. First I tried it out on paper, and then I made them in silver and bronze for my school's drama production. Everyone loved the hairpin, from the performer wearing it on stage to the audience too, which filled me with great pride. Since then, I have been asked to provide the hairpins for stage productions.

"Now my work is not restricted to the Lanna style; I incorporate other styles as well as use my own designs. I don't sketch before I start, therefore my designs are unique, and there are no two alike. I am now studying a Master's degree in Eastern Alphabetical Inscription, which has inspired me to create more designs to be worn on different occasions.

"An important part of the course is to travel around the countryside so I always take my camera with me. We visit all the ancient sites in Thailand, which are a magnificent source of inspiration. I have trained with several experienced photographers who have instructed me in the art of photography and I am proud to say I, too, am a skilled photographer. I love to photograph all the ancient sites that are important for the Thai nation.

"I feel inspired by joining Novica because, thanks to their technology they show each country's culture to the rest of the world."
