Rocio Melendez

Born in 1974, Rocío Meléndez Araujo has always had a penchant for arts and crafts. "At home, I was forever making presents for everyone. I applied my creativity when I worked in business administration, but by 2002 I couldn't deny my artistic instinct any longer.

"I took some courses in jewelry-making and began to design my own jewelry. Soon I was selling to relatives, friends and coworkers. My heart swells with pride every time someone admires my work! It inspires me to continue, safe in the knowledge that this is my true vocation.

"Designing jewelry has become my passion: I love seeing how a piece begins to take shape through the different stages of the crafting process. To me, designing is the most natural and spontaneous way to express what one holds inside in a moment of inspiration. It awakens something special. I may see an object, hear a sound, or feel the touch of something special and it awakens the senses and gets poured into the design of a jewelry piece.

"I believe jewelry must have a good fit with a woman's personality, and that in some way makes her feel it was created just for her, and that it is part of her essence. That's how I would like the people who wear my designs to feel."
