Pendant, 'Maya Bat'

The stern, mystical face of Zotz shines from a sterling silver pendant by Maria Belen Nilson. Meaning "bat," this Maya glyph identifies the fourth month of the Haab calendar, which was under the patronage of the Rain God. According to Maya customs, this astronomic and agricultural calendar was only available to high-ranking officials, and it is regarded as one of the most accurate and sophisticated calendars of the pre-Hispanic era.
