The artistry of Ni Made Suar has been featured in Depth magazine.
"My name is Made Suar. I was born in Bali in 1970, in a village where we can see many artists working in their own studios. I have spent ten years of my life creating bead art. The beads are easily got in Bali, as there are so many home industries working on beads, such as garments, sandals, offering covers, etc. Balinese people call the bead 'mute.'
"Women mostly do this art, as it needs special handling. The beads are arranged with nylon thread, then woven according to the patterns wanted. The motifs are mostly of flowers and leaves. We classify the beads in accordance with the style and color. There are four artists working with me who can work while chatting. Working and sharing is our way of life.
"Before I worked for an art shop, which produced bead art for orders placed by foreigners. However, now I have opened my own studio, supported by our family and relatives. Creating bead art makes me happy and helps our family financially. It is enjoyable work. Arranging the beads one at a time into a beautiful creation is special experience of art."
