Vivian

Born in Lima, Peru in 1964, Vivian Freideles creates stunning jewelry that is a physical representation of how she sees life. Her buoyant happiness rejuvenates each of her pieces, brimming with positive energy. From her skillful hands flow chains, bracelets, chokers, and sets shining with a unique beauty and grace. Vivian prefers to work with sterling silver, offsetting its gleam with a colorful array of semiprecious stones.

"…I am a professor specialized in the field of literature but I have dedicated myself to the art of jewelry making for the last fifteen years. I have taken courses in design and painting that have helped to develop my artistic creativity. My work is something that fascinates me. That is why I enjoy it so much. My work stems from both European and American cultures, I consider myself a part of their essence. Making jewelry is also a need for expression with which I am able to represent natural beauty through a work of straightforward ability, uniting the precious stone with the metal and in other cases only the worked metal. I believe that my jewelry is refined and can adapt to every necessity and every occasion. Preferentially I use 0.925 sterling silver or 18 karat gold; in some cases I complement with copper, aluminum, bronze, and iron, employing the usual tools of jewelry making such as pliers, soldering iron, bellows, etc. I like to design my work previous to beginning the process. I sketch them on paper and this allows me to review their proportions, estimate their probable weights to achieve equilibrium, etc. Then I search for the stones and what type of metal to use. The stones may be sapphires, rubies, agates, jasper, turquoise, or lapis lazuli. Finally they are polished until they obtain their optimum presentation.

"I have had exhibitions in Buenos Aires. That is how I was awarded Honorable Mention by the CHALT foundation in Argentina. In life, I have been faced with many challenges of diverse natures. Since I was a young girl, I have had to adapt myself to different cultures than my parents' (British and Latino) until personal achievements with the family were reached and I decided to devote myself exclusively to the art of jewelry which has brought me much satisfaction. I want to tell the clients of Novica to pause and contemplate what Peru has to exhibit in its immense showcase of time that links that past with the present…."
