Pisit Imchit

"My name is Pisit Imchit, but my friends call me Aek. I was born in Bangkok in 1976 and grew up there. Back then, it was nice. I was brought up in the way of the old Thai traditions and good manners are an asset in order to live with others. As we are a big family – grandparents, aunts, uncles, my parents, me and my brother who arrived seven years later – I have learned something from all of them.

"My mother is a small, pretty lady, a hairdresser who has shown me how much people value beauty and what beauty can do to people. My father worked abroad for a foreign company, so the first ten years of my life we hardly spent time together. But still he taught us to use reason against problems. He never laid his hands on us like other families would do to their kids.

"For my first seven years, I was the only child in my family. I had a pile of toys in my house but they gave me limited fun until I found what I can do with pencil and paper. It was the key to my new playground and it gave me limitless creativity and satisfaction. I learned to draw and develop my talent. I felt proud and it fulfilled me.

"I didn't pursue my talent; my family doesn't take art seriously. They never stopped me. But clearly, I had to aim for something else. After graduating from high school in Bangkok, I received a BA in humanities and social science from Burapha University in Chonburi Province. My major was English, my minor was Mandarin. Being away from home, I learned a lot besides my studies and made many friends.

"I started working as a tour guide but, after a year, I felt that was not me. I went on another job that required training in Germany. After a year, I was back in Bangkok, but again I felt as though I was not in the right place. I am good with my hands so I thought it would be better to work with them. I pursued fashion design, as I believed it made the most sense to me. So for two years, I studied tailoring and dressmaking, focusing on the technical part to bring my creations from paper to reality. In 2004, I won a design contest prize from Chiang Mai University on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen's 72nd birthday. It gave me more confidence to start my career.

"I design clothes and accessories because I love to dress up and look good. My works show that I wanted a certain look in my styles. My goal is to maintain good designs.

"I hope to get feedback from people all over the world to help me create even better designs. Hopefully, a beautiful piece you get from Novica will add something in your life, as it did to us."
