Firoz Kamal

"Hello, my name is Firoz Kamal and I come from a town primarily renowned for dhurrie weaving. I studied until the 12th standard and then quit school, since I was not interested in studying. Instead, I preferred to assist my parents with their stonemasonry work.

"Growing up was fun; it was always a delight to see artisans crafting fascinating designs. I enjoyed watching them. Then I met a friend who was already working in filigree and exporting his jewelry collection. He advised me to decide on a career and put my heart into it. He gladly introduced me to his exquisite and fascinating world of filigree work.

I began working with that same friend as an apprentice. I worked with him for eight years. It wasn't until 2004 that I started out on my own. Even today, I take his advice before doing anything. He is my mentor. I don't regret those years spent working for someone else, because I learned a lot, and now I'm able to do what I love.

"My own designs are all traditionally inspired. My favorite designs are floral. I am very glad to have been introduced to Novica. It is a good way to reach out to global clients. I would never before have imagined being able to have customers in so many distant places."
