"When I was a child, I didn't like anything I made because I felt insecure and I panicked when the teachers' orientation was the one of "creating something." I remember that my answer was always the same – 'I don't have creativity.' As an adult, regarding jewelry, it all began as a game. I saw a necklace on television and I decided to buy some beads and string them myself. It wasn't anything elaborate. I put the colored beads on a thread of waxed string, and I never imagined that – starting from that necklace – my life would take a different direction.

"This was the beginning of my artistic career. I always liked decoration, fashion and landscaping a lot, but I can't specify exactly when my interest for art appeared. Perhaps it reached its peak when my younger sister studied fine arts in the university. I began to live more directly with art, and what lies behind that universe captured my attention – creation.

"I believe that after having studied to be a psychologist, doing therapy and dedicating myself to knowing about the human being, I had a positive response to those encounters that lowered my self-esteem in childhood. I could see myself in a more mature way and recognize my creative potential. The creation of my designs and their acceptance led me to value that work and they revealed a little of me. I needed some time to understand that it was not important to design jewelry in agreement with other people's taste. Art showed me my own identity.

"I really enjoy working with materials that hold a little of the history of my country. I adore the happiness, the different customs, the mixture of faiths of the Brazilian people, and I try to transport that feeling through colorful designs with saints' images, seeds and stones, among other materials.

"I was very flattered on receiving Novica's invitation to take a little of my Brazil to other cultures. It is fascinating to reach people in places where I've never been and to show my work to those who still haven't had the opportunity to know Brazil better."
